Why checking the time can wake you more than the answer itself
The information is simple. The interaction is not. Reaching for the phone can expose you to a bright display, notifications and the temptation to keep looking. A spoken time answer removes most of that interaction.
The same logic applies to alarms: if you suddenly decide you need to wake at a different time, the useful workflow is to say it and go back to sleep.
This is not the same as “an alarm that talks”
There are dedicated alarm apps that announce the time or let you create alarms by voice. Somnori's distinction is the surrounding night context. Time and alarm are available alongside thought capture, dream capture and the before-sleep layer instead of living as isolated utilities.
What the current Somnori direction includes
- voice-first Night Assistant;
- spoken time queries;
- voice alarm commands;
- night thought and dream capture in the same mode;
- a separate morning layer after the night is over.
What it does not mean
“Voice alarm” here does not mean Somnori currently detects your sleep stage and chooses the biologically perfect wake-up moment. That kind of smart wake feature would require reliable sleep or wearable data and is a separate product layer.
It also does not mean Somnori needs to beat Google or another system assistant at every general command. The product advantage is the continuous night workflow.
A useful night assistant should reduce reasons to touch the phone
| Night need | Typical phone flow | Somnori goal |
|---|---|---|
| What time is it? | Wake screen and look | Ask and hear the answer |
| Change wake time | Open Clock, edit alarm | Say the alarm command |
| Save an idea | Open Notes or Recorder | Use the same Night Assistant |
| Save a dream | Open a dream journal | Use the same Night Assistant |
Where this becomes more interesting
The longer-term direction is not merely a better alarm screen. It is a wake protocol: alarm, chosen audio, a morning cue or autosuggestion, and a controlled transition into the day. That sequence is a roadmap layer and should not be confused with the alarm functions already available now.
