What “hands-free” means here
Somnori's nighttime mode is built around voice activation rather than a sequence of taps. The goal is not to pretend Android has no permissions, battery policies or setup constraints. The goal is to remove repeated interaction once the night mode is prepared.
A phone may still need to be configured before bed. Once the Night Assistant is ready, the core nighttime actions are designed to be voice-driven.
Is Somnori the only app that records dreams at night?
No. That would be an inaccurate claim.
Other products already reduce nighttime friction in different ways: taps from the lock screen, dark recording modes, voice capture and other low-interaction workflows. Somnori's direction is an Android-first voice-triggered night system that connects capture with useful night commands, before-sleep preparation and Morning.
Count deliberate actions, not marketing labels.
The question is how much attention you have to give the phone between “I need to save this” and “it is safely captured.”
Why the screen can be the problem
A dream can return as a fragile chain of images. A new idea can be equally fragile. Looking at notifications, reading interface text or deciding which button to press creates competing attention at exactly the wrong time.
Somnori treats the half-awake state as a design constraint rather than an edge case. The interface should help you complete the task and then leave.
Time and alarm are not side decorations
For many nighttime users, asking “what time is it?” without opening their eyes is valuable in its own right. The same is true of setting or changing an alarm by voice. These commands may also be available in general assistants, but inside Somnori they belong to one prepared night context.
That distinction matters: Somnori is not claiming ownership of the alarm or clock command. It is combining them with capture and the rest of the night workflow so the user has fewer reasons to leave that context.
What happens after a dream recording
The dream entry belongs to the night. In Morning, saved dreams and other entries can be reviewed together after waking. That deliberately separates two jobs:
- At night: preserve what matters with minimum friction.
- In the morning: read, add details, review and organize.
What we are testing on Android
Hands-free night behavior is only valuable if it survives real devices, screen-off time and Android background constraints. Somnori therefore treats wake-phrase detection, recording completion and alarm behavior as product infrastructure rather than demo features.
The public site will not claim identical behavior on every Android device. Device-specific setup guidance can grow with the public release.
Hands-free Somnori vs. a general assistant
General assistants can answer the time, set alarms and create notes. Somnori does not need to beat a platform assistant at general knowledge or universal phone control.
The specialized value is the prepared nighttime workflow: capture what arrived, keep night utilities close, connect bedtime practices and autosuggestion, and carry the relevant material into Morning. That combination is the product layer.
